The Time is Now

27 July - 3 August 2026

Location: Ștefănel  - Dolj

This wasn't just a dream that came true; it's here now.

English adaptation (humor + some rhyme kept, lightly smoothed so it still sounds like you, made by groggy):

I’m starting this one in English, but with a little sun-accent from Ștefănel (Gojoșu commune) and the ethics of a Bucharest tourist who shows up with Maps on the pasture at the edge of the village, next to the oak forest that’s almost been cut down by hunger and thirst for Romanian țuică from a copper swan-neck still, green-patinated and dripping. But we have the spring, as follows — quoting from my own subjective experience, 09:23 today, perfectly sober, only tea so far.

This year our version of the Burning Man was more immersive than ever, a kind of charm with no evil eye, and I won’t swear on my soul… This year I was more of a tourist, because until now I’ve been keeping the tourists at home, but I’ll tell you from the heart: we ended up burning the most beautiful man so far. He burned (probably) with a lot of love (I heard beautiful sounds that night), with sun, an almost-full moon from what I remember, and more water (we went in the spring with our feet), green oaks, and wood from the Mayor’s office. The church was with us. We visited the village cemetery. The priest is the finest one, and next year I think he’ll take more care of us, even if almost nobody still goes to church…

The villagers were welcoming; they helped us with the tractor and their rafter work. Some things were still hauled by horse and cart, but I don’t remember anymore… Three months have already passed, or maybe an eternity, since one atom of tomatoes with ripe basil. A revolution of the present in which we had more kids than ever. The slightly older ones disappeared. The grandparents stayed in the village and waited for us to see their greenhouse, the pigs, and the quails. Beware of fleas — it’s bad if they bite you. I read it on my own skin that the night is thick; you can’t survive without kisses and the love from grass pulled under the moon (I’m reading from the stories).

There were four (4) thematic camps that came together to raise a man. The first camp is the village itself. We have no gates and people still slip under the non-existent fences, same as every year, and without a ticket, because nobody checks you at the imaginary entrance — the girls just pull us a bit harder so we can show who has more work done.

We’re all stellar sheriffs and we ride light bicycles so the chain from the front right door doesn’t rust. Then there were the already-established camps:

Juju in the field — a multicultural settlement of minorities turned up to maximum, like the Mexican Javier, Denisa from Cyprus, my 11-year-old son Găbițu who was the manager, music on function 1, and only good food in the “backstage” fridge.

The youth from R23 (or soon R32, because the little ones grow fast). They make the most beautiful Romanian chord progressions with Alin in front at the piano, a kind of Gandalf the Black with a clean chest and heart — he only smokes from a pipe, brother! Everyone there is a brigade chief, but the main ones and the grandparents are Francisco Cisco Disco and In Gi Jung, a famous Romanian film author with Korean origins, a mix of sharp razor on his wife’s katana, Deea Jung. I confess I played nicely in their camp because they have two floors and I could hang from the iridescent chains like a pirate with many wings, lifted by the man with the crane on the first day — God give them health.

There was also a surprise: the richest camp, full of rum and Kraken-type octopuses, called Rum & Bass. I liked them enormously because they brought a lot of games, like Jenga, and other small details that kept us sitting on the hill telling stories. It was forged by a couple: half Dutch, masculine and tall like a prince, and half beautiful, like a fiery and harmonious Romanian. We liked drinking distilled lavender water over the hill, at a friend from the united villages.

I won’t tell you more about the man who burned, because next year I’ll catch you there and I’ll interview you after we’ve smoked a bit too much. I also like to read, and I’ll show you the photos better, because otherwise we won’t understand each other that well.

I love you from the heart, and I want to beat you at chess so badly I can’t stand the longing, and we’ll see each other soon — present, well-behaved, but a little lack of mind helps with creation inside a safe frame like RoBurn. I hope next year we’ll have more rangers for the cattle that escaped the hot lasso. Don’t bring dogs and pets anymore, because we argue at the entrance. We also have one single rule with pets, and you keep playing folk dances on that camp under a lot of sun, and maybe you’ll lose them. God forgive me, through the forest. But if it catches you again, it will ring… kisses from the village grandmas.

With respect,
G++
